Are you like me, are you always running against time?

I try to cram so much into my life and generally that is good, I do like to be busy, but I also have to make sure I have downtime. And that I am spending my downtime with the people that are important to me.

Time for me is one of my fascinations. I never seem to have enough of it, and it goes so quick, I am always on a schedule, wishing I could have just one more day for prepping or organising. Even in the clinic, my sessions seem to go so quick, which is a good thing as it is a sign, I am enjoying my work.  I always remember being told as you get older time seems to go quicker, and I have to say it is true. It just seems like yesterday I was running after three small children.  Wondering if I would ever have 5 minutes to myself, not realising how quick that time goes. I look at young families now, and I think, make the most of those precious moments, they go so fast. I moved to Australia 12 years ago, and I don’t know where that time has gone.

I am a sci-fi geek and anything connected with time travel has me hooked, I am also a Whovian (Dr.Who fan). My favourite book is Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, about love and wasted time. As I get older, one of my pet hates is wasted time.  I have a 45-minute drive to my Fremantle clinic, and I listen to podcasts on my journey so I can learn as I am driving, making the most of my time. I love my podcasts!!

One of the things, while I was in lockdown, was having time, time to think, reflect and be creative. I promised myself that when I got back to some normality, I would remember how precious that time was and not allow myself to go back into full swing. Here I am again, trying to find time for all my projects.

So, I started to ponder on time; how do we appreciate the time and how do we choose the right things and people to spend our precious time on? Do you ever agree to something and sit there thinking “why am I here? I would rather be doing something else.”

How do we make sure we prioritise our time?

Who are the people you want to spend time with?  Make a list of people who you want to spend time with. I can guarantee the people you have just thought about, aren’t the ones getting the most of your time.

It’s not just who, but what, what do you enjoy doing? Do you make the time for it? I love my work and my study, so I have to make sure I find my balance between work and play.

I also really like to exercise, but when I am busy, it’s the first thing I neglect even though Its good for me and my body needs it.

I am writing this as a reminder to myself that when I make the time, I feel better, I eat better, and my creative side comes out. I am ensuring I make the time to do the things I love; spending time with my family, getting lost in a book, and walking along the beach.

Who do you enjoy spending time with? What do you need to make time to do?
